Amasa Valley

The summer heatwave was in full swing--triple digits down below. When we reached this pond, no one could resist the cool water. Fortunately, it was deep enough for some diving... but barely. This pond is near an old mining settlement that contains a few structures and pieces of equipment. Word has it that it was abandoned in the 1940's and then re-worked unsuccessfully in the 1980's. It's worth a look around.

We continued up the road to Amasa Valley. Below are a few pictures of the valley where we camped, and the unusual rock formations that surrounded us.

Our camp was at the front of the grove of aspens on the left.

The north face of Notch Peak. The peak is not accessible via Amasa Valley, but the views are rewarding.
