Crystal Peak

Crystal Peak Millard County, Utah Crystal Peak is at the northern end of the Wah Wah Range. With the slightest sense of direction, a traveler can spot the peak from many miles away. Its unusual appearance is the draw... a huge mound of white volcanic tuff eroded by the elements. It is not unlike the strange rocks of the Newfoundland Mountains, or the Lace Curtain on the north face of Pahvant Butte. Unlike the range of which is a part, Crystal Peak predates the fault-blocking that formed the basin and range topography of the Great Basin. It stands out in stark contrast to the land surrounding it, as seen in the photos below.

We decided to take some of our kids along on this outing. It made scaling the peak a bit more fearsome than had we gone by ourselves, but the kids loved the place, enjoyed the weird rocks, saw lots of critters, and got to stay up late by the campfire and listen to my tired old stories about running into freaky dudes and strange graves in the desert.
