Pariah was used as a movie set. Pahrea was settled in 1870 on the narrow benches above the Pahreah River (later spelled Pariah ) Nuts, vineyards, and vegetables flourished. The settlers also ran cattle in the canyons. Pahreah was a popular stopping place for river travelers such as explorer John Wesley Powell and various Indians. The 47 families built sturdy sandstone houses but many of these were washed away during frequent floods. By the 1890's only 8 families still remained in Pahreah. (Source: ghosttowns.com)

The town of Pariah was NOT used as a movie set as some have speculated. This rumor has persisted because a movie set was built near the town of Pariah. This set later burned to the ground. Today not much of the original town remains beyond a few stone foundations. Several years ago volunteers re-constructed the old movie set a short distance from the original town site. It isn't much to see but they did an admirable job and it is fun to exploring.
