Nutty Putty Cave
Nutty Putty Cave is a naturally formed thermal spring cave located on the west side of Utah Lake. The cave has many rooms, corridors, and tunnels. The cave is very popular to the locals and is thought to be a good cave for beginners, but is in fact not. Because of this, many new and unexperienced cavers found themselves getting stuck, lost, and injured.
On April 14, 2006, the Utah State Trust Lands granted the Timpanogos Grotto the right to manage the access to Nutty Putty Cave to improve the overall safety. On May 24, 2006, Nutty Putty gate was completed. The Timpanogos Grotto limits access to those who agree to abide by caving guidelines. The long-term goal of the management agreement is to avoid future accidents that would eventually lead to the total closure of the cave. The Timpanogos Grotto managed the cave via www.nuttyputtycave.com. A webiste that contains all the information necessary to make a visit to the cave.
On November 24, John Jones died in Nutty Putty Caves after being trapped head down for over 24 hours. With body in place, the cave entrance was permanently sealed and grave easement was placed on the cave. No access is allowed.
