Belmont Nevada
This ghost town is a bit out of the way, but worth the effort to get to. This town was established in 1865 after silver was discovered. Down the main street remain the stone store fronts of this old mining town. Belmont was the county seat during these early years, but was moved to Tonopah in 1905. Of primary interest is the old court house that still stands just north of the main street. The court house is a state park and signs posted on it stated that it is being restored.
Just outside of town are two separate red brick smelter stacks, the Monitor-Belmont Mill and the combination mill. Both of these stacks are in pretty good condition, but as all things man made, may not last too much longer. Both sites have bits and pieces of bricks lying around the area as their supporting buildings have been destroyed. While mine headstocks and ore hoppers are common in these old mining areas, these are the only smokestacks that I have seen.
This little ghost town is a real jewel if you take time to explore the area.
